Israel conflict latest: Israel closes border zone with Lebanon and restricts GPS

Western nations are trying to secure safe passage for their citizens in Gaza through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, but scores of foreign passport holders are still waiting at the crossing which remains largely closed.

They include Swedish passport-holder Jamil Abdallah, whose family lives in Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Gaza strip. He arrived there two months ago to visit family.

“The situation is catastrophic. There are dead bodies, injured people, rubble and blood everywhere,” he said. “The embassy told us to head to the crossing yesterday. We came and it did not open.”

Abdallah added: “We call upon Egypt and the whole world to open the crossing. I have nine children in Sweden who are dying of worry.”
